13thirteen is the newest venue to grace downtown Madison. We were absolutely thrilled when they asked us to style a shoot featuring their new, industrial space. To celebrate their upcoming opening, we had the pleasure of interviewing managing member, Rod Ripley.
Why did you decide to open 13thirteen?
Downtown Madison really needed another option in venue’s that were unique but affordable at the same time. There was also a lack of any event spaces in the area with a real urban or industrial theme, such as what 13thirteen offers.
What is the capacity for your venue?
155 seated
What makes your venue unique?
The venue is so unique because it is such a versatile space. All of the amazing original features are really brought out in the design; 16 foot raw wood ceilings, 3 giant metal and glass overhead doors, originally restored skylights, exposed ductwork and pipes, reclaimed wood and metal accents, huge re-purposed sliding accent doors, polished concrete floors, and amazing accent walls. Much of the decor and brick were re-purposed from the building. It is truly a place that can be dressed up to the most elegant affair or dressed down to a casual party. Not many spaces have the ability to easily morph to fit any possible party or wedding theme like 13thirteen does.
What amenities come with the venue?
We have round tables and white wedding chairs. There’s also a large handcrafted wood and metal private bar, beautifully decorated private restrooms with huge trough style concrete sinks. There’s also on-site parking that can be reserved for their special day and in house catering.
How would you describe your ideal couple?
Our ideal couple would be one who can look at the space with an open mind, see the beauty of what’s already there, and envision how their theme could fit the space.
